November 17th, 2008
FARMINGTON, ME (November 17, 2008)--The University of Maine at Farmington
Center for Human Development recently hosted UMF's third annual College to
Corporate Symposium. This event brought more than 40 junior and senior
business students together with corporate professionals from New England to
discuss the job application process and today's work environment.
The evening began with a panel discussion including: Justin Hall, UMF class
of 2005 alumnus and representative from Ameriprise Financial; Jen McEntee
and Ryan Paczkowski from Barclaycard; Rick Martin from Comfort Inn &
Suites; Mike Engert from Experience; Larry Stewart from Franklin Community
Health Network; and David Michaud, Stacey Abbott and Peggy Willihan from
Verso Paper.
Panel members explained the interviewing and hiring process and provided
the audience with an inside look at how the practice compares among
businesses. Employer expectations were reviewed regarding dress, decorum
and written presentation of a resume and cover letter. Speakers at the
symposium recommended that students research positions of interest and
their companies thoroughly to achieve the greatest employment success.
Sponsored by the UMF Department of Social Science and Business, pre-MBA
program and Barclaycard and Verso Paper companies, the evening concluded
with dinner and a shared interest in continuing to network in the future.
