University of Maine at Farmington Music Performance Groups Open to New Members

FARMINGTON, ME (January 15, 2009)--The University of Maine at Farmington
Community Orchestra, Concert Band and Community Chorus, are open to new
membership for the spring semester. Members of the public interested in
joining a UMF Department of Music performance group are invited to attend
any of the following registration/rehearsal sessions held at Nordica
Auditorium in UMF's Merrill Hall: UMF Community Orchestra, 7 p.m.,
Wednesday, Jan. 21; UMF Concert Band, 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22; and UMF
Community Chorus, 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26.

The Community Orchestra will hold their rehearsals from 7-9:30 p.m.,
Wednesdays, and is open to instrumentalists of all sections and levels.
Concert Band rehearsals will be held from 7-9:30 p.m., Thursdays, and is
open to members in all sections, but especially welcomes trumpeters,
percussionists, flutists and bassoonists for their upcoming program.
Community Chorus rehearsals will be held from 6:30-9 p.m., Mondays, and is
open to members of all sections, but especially welcomes tenors and basses.

These UMF performing organizations join community members from throughout
western Maine with UMF students, faculty and staff to perform multiple
musical styles and genres, including, classical, contemporary, popular and
jazz. Spring performances will include works from Haydn, Mendelssohn,
Purcell, Handel, popular spirituals and Hollywood soundtracks, among others.
