University of Maine at Farmington Celebrates the Arts with 2009 Michael D. Wilson Symposium Arts Fortnight

FARMINGTON, ME (April 3, 2009)--In celebration of University of Maine at
Farmington's commitment to the dynamic integration of the arts, UMF
welcomes the campus and the community to the 2009 Michael D. Wilson
Symposium Arts Fortnight. This two-week long series of arts events will be
held at various on and off campus venues and will take place from Thursday,
April 9 - Thursday, April 16, and continue after the academic spring break
from Tuesday, April 28 - Sunday, May 3.

Sponsored by UMF's Department of Visual and Performing Arts and Ministry of
Experimental Arts, this creative and collaborative spring arts festival
will feature visual and performing arts presentations by UMF students,
faculty, staff and community partners. The arts gala is partially funded by
a generous gift from Michael and Susan Angelides, Stonington, Conn., in
honor of UMF alumnus Michael D. Wilson. The events will include innovative
theater performances, eye-popping musical and multimedia presentations,
dynamic visual art displays, and musical performances from cars to guitars.

Arts Fortnight events include:

One Act Theatre Festival - A student-directed and produced one act theater
festival. Admission: $7 adults, $4 seniors and children, free for UMF
students with I.D.

The Second Annual Pixel Hunter Video and Animation Festival - A selection
of time-based media created by UMF students.

Night of Minimalism - A program of minimalist musical works.

presented as reader's theatre.

INCARNATION for automobile orchestra - UMF's third traffic jam session,

The UMF Ministry of Experimental Arts is an organization of students,
faculty and staff whose mission is to promote the arts at UMF and provide
arts and cultural opportunities for the campus and local communities.
Founded in 2007, this innovative arts organization has presented many
successful cultural events in collaboration with the UMF Department of
Visual and Performing Arts, including, 2007 Arts Night and 2008 Arts Week,
both developed as preludes to the Michael D. Wilson Symposium celebration
of undergraduate research; and 2009 Winter Arts Week, which presented a
host of original musical, video, theatrical and art exhibits.
