Nov 13University of Maine at Farmington Presents UMF Concert Band Fall Performance, Nov. 19
November 13th, 2009
FARMINGTON, ME (November 13, 2009)--The UMF Concert Band, comprised of UMF
students, community members and local high school students, will perform
its fall concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, in Nordica
Auditorium at University of Maine at Farmington's Merrill Hall.
Guest musicians from two additional Maine schools will be joining this
year's performance. The Colby College Jazz Ensemble, a top-notch 17-piece
big band under the direction of Eric Thomas, will be opening the concert
with a selection of traditional and contemporary jazz arrangements. The
Bowdoin College Brass Quintet, which includes UMF Band director Anita
Jerosch on trombone, will be soloists in "Shadowcatcher" by Eric Ewazen.
This concerto for brass instruments and band was inspired by Edward
Curtis's photographs of American Indians.
For the rest of the program, Jerosch will be leading the band in Morton
Gould's "American Salute;" James Kirby's "Garden of the Gods," with early
childhood education major Janelle Thuotte playing Native American flute and
several seasonal holiday songs.
Jerosch, a versatile bass trombonist and euphonium player, is a member of
the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and directs the Edith Jones Project--a modern,
big band jazz group. She has performed with the Portland Symphony Orchestra
and Maine State Music Theater and has played for Carol Channing, Rita
Moreno, Barry Manilow and The Manhattan Transfer and performed at both
inaugural balls for President Clinton.
Tickets are available at the door the night of the performance and are
priced at $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and are free to UMF students with
University I.D. For more information, please contact the UMF Department of
Sound, Performance and Visual Inquiry at 207-778-7072.
